Basketball is a game that not only requires skill, but also passion and dedication. For high school basketball players, showcasing their talent and skills is essential to take their game to the next level. An open run is an excellent opportunity for young athletes to show off their skills on the court. The Gus Weaver Private Run is one such opportunity for high school basketball players, and Elite Hoops Spotlight attended this outstanding event.

There was some outstanding high school talent at this open run ranging from committed seniors to outstanding freshman. Here are some of the players that stood out:

Lee Hardy 2023 F 6-6 North Farmington HS (MI) (Committed to Olivet College (MI)

If you're a basketball fan, then you know that it takes a certain type of player to truly stand out on the court. Someone who hustles, attacks the rim, rebounds, blocks shots, and plays defense is someone who can make a real difference in the game. This is why Hardy stood out to me!

Julian Young 2024 G 6-0 Harper Woods HS (MI)

Young is a quick, aggressive player who can finish strong at the rim. He's also deadly from beyond the arc, with a consistent three-point shot that will keep defenders honest.

James Weaver 2024 G 6-0 River Rouge HS (MI)

With a keen understanding of when to shoot and when to pass, Weaver keeps his teammates involved and plays under control. He's the kind of player who can take charge, when necessary, but also, he can create opportunities for his teammates.

J’Vohn Walker 2024 G 6-5 Dearborn Heights Robichaud (MI)

Walker is a smooth left-handed scorer who can put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. With his excellent handles and good length, he's becoming a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Michael Myles 2024 G 5-10-G Redford Union HS (MI)

Myles is a two-sport star who made an incredible recovery from a leg injury and missed an entire season. He showed he is a leader and he played under control and made good decisions. You can see that his approach to the game is inspiring, and he's a true testament to the power of hard work and dedication.

Andrew Ashwood 2025 G 5-11 Romulus Summit Academy (MI)

Ashwood is an athletic player with a quick, aggressive style that makes him relentless when going to the basket. He's also got a great shooting range, making him a versatile player on the court.

Jaden Garwood 2026 F 6-4 University of Detroit Jesuit (MI)

Despite being a freshman, he plays like he's been in the game for years. He's a good shooter, a good dribbler, and moves his feet well for a player his size. But where he really shines is his ability to make an impact when attacking the rim. Very bright future.
