Regis University Director of Athletics Tommy Gilhooly announced Wednesday that Rex Walters has been hired as the new head coach of the Rangers men’s basketball program. Walters becomes the 11th head coach in program history, which dates back to its founding in 1946.

A seasoned basketball mind, Walters brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach. His resume includes time as a college standout, a professional player in the NBA, and coaching roles at both collegiate and professional levels. Walters is widely respected for his ability to develop talent, instill discipline, and build programs that compete with integrity and toughness.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rex Walters to Regis University,” said Gilhooly. “His leadership, experience, and vision align perfectly with the direction we want our basketball program to go. We are confident that he will build on the tradition of excellence here in Denver.”

As the Rangers prepare for a new season, the addition of Walters signals a bold step forward. With a proven coach at the helm, Regis Men’s Basketball looks ready to rise.
