  09/29/2025

The University of Temple has officially secured its first commitment in the 2026 class: Derrick Morton-Rivera, a three-star guard from Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, has pledged to the Owls.

Player Profile & Recruitment
Morton-Rivera — standing around 6′3″ — has built a reputation in the Philadelphia area as a dependable scorer with shooting range, off-ball movement, and high basketball IQ. Last season, he averaged 17.2 points per game for Father Judge, helping lead the program to success in the PIAA 6A competition. He is ranked among the top recruits in Pennsylvania and is Temple’s first 2026 commit.

When asked about his decision, Morton-Rivera cited the comfort and strong relationships he built with the Temple coaching staff, as well as the fit of their style of play — fast, energetic, and opportunity-filled for freshmen.

What He Brings to Temple

  • A reliable three-point shot and the ability to stretch defenses

  • Off-ball movement, cutting instincts, and energy on both ends

  • Local ties and fan support, staying close to home

  • Upside as a multi-level scorer and a potential early contributor

Temple’s program gets a strong, high-motivation guard who fits their identity and helps start momentum in the 2026 cycle.
