Round Rock High School’s Class of 2027 wing Collin J. Elkins is emerging as one of the most intriguing young prospects in Texas. At 6-4 with a strong frame, a versatile skill set, and a growing confidence on both ends of the floor, Elkins is positioning himself for a breakout stretch as he continues to build back from injury and refine key areas of his game.
When we sat down for an interview, the sophomore standout offered a clear picture of where his development is heading—and the mindset driving him forward.
Improvement Through Adversity
Elkins shared that shooting has been his biggest area of improvement recently, largely because it’s what he could lock in on during rehab. Before his injury, he attacked the basket with power and physicality—thanks to significant offseason strength gains that allowed him to finish through contact.
“I bulked a lot over the summer, so it helped knocking guys over without even trying,” he said. That blend of strength and skill gives him a unique scoring profile as he continues to return to full form.
Locked In on Defense
Right now, Elkins is intentionally sharpening his on-ball defense, an area he believes will elevate his value on the floor. His length, strength, and effort already give him defensive upside, and he’s focused on turning that into a consistent strength.
Coaches and teammates see one thing above all: his effort. Whether he’s in a shooting drill, defensive assignment, or film session, Elkins prides himself on showing up with commitment.
Under-the-Radar Playmaking
While many notice his scoring and physical tools, Elkins believes his most underrated skill is his playmaking. He reads the floor well, cuts with purpose, and finds ways to create opportunities for others—a trait that will continue to stand out as he grows into a bigger offensive role.
Goals On and Off the Court
Elkins’ ambition is clear.
On the court, he’s working to increase his averages and become a consistent two-way presence.
Off the court, he’s focused on improving speed and agility, knowing athletic gains will unlock more dimensions of his game.
The Mindset Behind the Player
One of the most impressive parts of Elkins’ story is what fuels him behind the scenes.
“I put in a lot of work and time on my own, and sometimes it’s a challenge,” he said. “But I always lean on my faith in God, knowing He’s my source through it all.”
His dedication is clear—and it is evident in his goals and approach to the game.
Final Thoughts from Collin Elkins
“My game is well-rounded. I set out a goal to average a double-double each game. I cut and find ways to get open. I’m also good on defense, getting lots of blocks and steals. My mindset on the court is figuring out what I can do to outplay my opponent and keep going at them, whether on offense or defense. I impact the game in a way that helps my team to victory.”
Elkins is the type of player who brings value in multiple ways—scoring, defending, creating, and competing. As he continues to develop, expect his name to rise on scouting boards and within recruiting circles across Texas and beyond.
