Knott and Jones Lead King Past Pershing in PSL Quarterfinals
Written by Paul Garwood
When the postseason arrives, every possession carries weight. On Tuesday night, in the PSL quarterfinals, Detroit King played with the urgency and discipline that winning programs rely on this time of year.
King secured a 57–44 victory over Detroit Pershing, improving to 15–4 on the season and punching its ticket to the semifinal round. It wasn’t just the final score that stood out — it was the way King controlled the game from key stretches forward.
Marion Knott led the charge with 19 points, attacking decisively and finishing through contact. He played with confidence and pace, setting the offensive tone and keeping Pershing’s defense on its heels. In playoff settings, production from your primary scorer matters, and Knott delivered.
Steven Jones added 14 points, providing balance and timely baskets. His ability to space the floor and capitalize on opportunities helped King maintain separation. Together, Knott and Jones gave King the offensive stability needed to close out the quarterfinal matchup.
Detroit Pershing (7–9) leaned heavily on Quanez Smith, who turned in a strong individual performance despite the loss. Smith finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, competing relentlessly on both ends. He scored at multiple levels and battled on the glass, doing everything he could to keep Pershing within reach.
Defensively, King tightened up as the game progressed. Rebounding discipline and improved half-court execution limited second-chance opportunities for Pershing. In playoff basketball, details decide outcomes — and King’s attention to those details proved decisive.
With the semifinal round ahead, King carries momentum and a balanced offensive attack that makes them dangerous. If they continue to defend collectively and execute with purpose, they’ll remain a serious contender in the PSL bracket.
The postseason always reveals character. On this night, Detroit King showed they are ready for what comes next.
