Some point guards are known for their scoring. Others are recognized for their ability to distribute the basketball. Zane Gustafson has shown he can do both, and that balanced skill set helped elevate his recruiting profile throughout the summer.

The 5-foot-11 Class of 2027 guard from Kingwood High School followed up a productive high school season by continuing to perform at a high level with FYN All Stars. During the 2025-26 season, Gustafson averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game, consistently serving as the engine of his team's offense.

His summer performances reinforced why college coaches continue to invest in him.

Gustafson delivered one of his best outings with 27 points, five rebounds, four assists, and eight three-pointers, demonstrating both his shooting range and confidence in big moments. In another performance, he shifted into facilitator mode, recording 13 assists while adding 10 points and six rebounds. He also produced 22 points, eight assists, and three rebounds, showcasing his ability to score while keeping teammates involved.

Those performances highlight what separates Gustafson from many guards in his class.

He understands how to control tempo, makes quality decisions with the basketball, and reads the game well. He's comfortable creating offense for himself, but he's equally effective creating opportunities for others. His ability to knock down perimeter shots forces defenses to respect him beyond the arc, creating driving lanes and passing opportunities that keep an offense flowing.

His consistent play has resulted in scholarship offers from Bethel College, Florida Memorial University, Central Baptist College, Arlington Baptist University, Ottawa University, Wayland Baptist University, St. Xavier University, and St. Thomas University. He also earned multiple Player of the Game honors during the summer, reflecting the impact he made across several events.

Gustafson's summer wasn't built around one standout performance—it was built on consistency. He repeatedly showed he can lead an offense, make timely decisions, and produce whether the game calls for scoring or playmaking.

As he enters his senior season, expect him to continue setting the tone for Kingwood High School. His ability to stretch the floor, create for teammates, and make sound decisions with the ball makes him one of the more dependable lead guards in Texas' 2027 class.
