Every summer, a few players use the live period to show college coaches they're ready for the next level. John Joern III was one of those players.

The 6-foot-3 Class of 2027 guard from Cypress Woods High School put together an impressive summer with Awake Elite 2027, consistently producing against quality competition while establishing himself as one of the more dependable scoring guards in Texas.

His production wasn't limited to one event or one hot shooting night.

Joern scored 21 points against Team Elevate, 22 points against Team Griffin, 22 points against YPG, 26 points against EAD, and delivered his signature performance with 33 points against Urban DFW. Those outings highlighted not only his scoring ability but also the consistency that college coaches value throughout the evaluation period.

He carried that momentum into the TABC Showcase, helping Cypress Woods finish 3-0 while continuing to play with confidence and efficiency against strong competition.

What stands out most about Joern is how naturally he scores.

He doesn't rely on forcing difficult shots or dominating the basketball. Instead, he plays within the offense, moves well without the ball, and takes advantage of scoring opportunities when they present themselves. Whether he's knocking down perimeter jumpers, creating space off the dribble, or attacking an opening to the basket, he plays with patience and confidence.

His game continues to expand beyond scoring. Joern has become more comfortable making reads, keeping the ball moving, and allowing the offense to flow. That balance makes him more than just a shooter—it makes him a complete offensive guard who understands how to play winning basketball.

His performances throughout the summer earned recognition as a two-time MVP at the All-N-One Showcase Camps, an accomplishment that reflects the consistency of his play in front of college coaches.

His development has also resulted in scholarship offers from Emory & Henry University, Texas Lutheran University, Central Baptist College, St. Xavier University, St. Thomas University (Florida), Howard Payne University, and Florida Memorial University.

Off the court, Joern has been equally impressive. He has earned Honor Roll recognition every semester of high school while also becoming a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School Mathematics Honor Society, demonstrating the same commitment in the classroom that he brings to basketball.
