Player Spotlight: Cody Peck – A Defensive Prospect with Major Upside

  08/17/2025

Cody Peck may not yet have the body or offensive polish for the college level, but he possesses the type of physical tools and defensive instincts that make him a fascinating long-term prospect.

Measuring 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Peck is an elite rim protector, averaging 2.6 blocks per game during 3SSB play. What makes him unique is that he isn’t just a stationary shot-blocker — he has the foot speed and agility to step out, move laterally, and defend on the perimeter. That versatility is rare for his size and immediately raises his ceiling.

On the offensive end, Peck is still a work in progress. His lean frame and high center of gravity make it difficult for him to play through contact, and he lacks a consistent scoring package. However, there are glimpses of tools worth building on: he runs the floor well, finishes as a lob threat in open space, and shows touch with a high release, knocking down free throws at a 71% clip. He has good hands and can put the ball down once or twice when attacking straight-line drives, suggesting potential for gradual growth in his skill set.

The priority for Peck moving forward is physical development. Adding strength in both his upper and lower body will allow him to better handle contact and improve his presence on the glass and in the paint.

While his grassroots season didn’t bring the breakout many were anticipating, Peck’s combination of length, mobility, and defensive instincts ensures that his long-term outlook remains bright. With time, growth, and strength, he has the tools to become a difference-maker at the next level.
