Macomb leaned on the steady play and rising confidence of sophomore guard Donald Wilburn, who delivered a career-high 23 points to help secure a 90–79 victory over Grand Rapids Community College. From start to finish, Wilburn played with purpose, rhythm, and efficiency, stepping up in one of the program’s most complete offensive efforts of the season.
Wilburn’s shot-making set the tone early. He finished with 10 made field goals, showing a strong mix of downhill aggression, mid-range control, and composure in traffic. His outside touch made an impact as well, knocking down 2 three-pointers, both coming in momentum-shifting moments. Even with defenders keying in on him, he found ways to create advantages off the dribble and convert.
Beyond the scoring surge, Wilburn’s presence on the floor was undeniable. Logging 30 minutes, he maintained a steady tempo, helped facilitate offense, and responded each time GRCC tried to cut into the lead. His ability to score without forcing shots gave his team exactly what they needed: a reliable, efficient guard who could carry stretches of offense without disrupting flow.
The performance was highlighted by toughness and efficiency — traits that reflect Wilburn’s growth. His lone free-throw make came in a decisive late-game possession, underscoring his poise in pressure situations.
For Macomb, Wilburn’s breakout is more than a big scoring night — it’s a sign of a guard stepping into a bigger role as the season progresses. And if this performance is any indication, he’s just getting started.
